Goolwa. Australia's first public railway carriage. On display in Goolwa. The Goolwa to Port Elliot horse railway opened in 1853. Work began on the railway in 1851. Carriage marked as SAR.

Milang. Roberts General store in Milang. Now a private residence. Wooden shingles under galvanised iron roof.

Yarrawonga. The Cumberoona paddle steamer operates on Lake Mulwala. It was rebuiilt in 1986. This is the old boiler where the steam is produced.

Daveyston. The Old Nain Hotel. This second hotel was built in 1872. It becme a temerpance hotel in 1911 and closed in 1914 and became a pair of residences. Note one window was once a doorway.

Daveyston. The first Old Nain Hotel was built in 1857. This second Nain Hotel was built in 1872. It closed as a licensed hotel in 1911. Nuriootpa District Council rented rooms in here in the 1870s.

Strathalbyn. A bay window on Water Villa House built in 1849 for flourmill owner and pastoralist David Gollan. The bay windows were added in 1879.

Strathalbyn. The town was established in 1839. The Gollans were a pioneering family that took up pastoral lands around Lake Alexandrina and Lake Albert. Gollan grew the first wheat crop and built the flourmill in 1850.

Wentworth Post Office built 1899 in Greek Classical style. Pilasters beside doorway, roof pediment, paired windows and perfect symmetry.

Daveyston. The old general store built in 1863 and it contained the Post Office. General store closed 1905. The later galvanised iron Post Office shed is next to it.

Strathalbyn Railway Station built 1883 when the line from Victor Harbor to Strathalbyn was extended to Mt Barker Junction and Adelaide. At that time the 1867 horse tram line was converted to broad guage for steam engines.

Blanchetown. The fine old Georgian style Post Office and Telegraph Station built in 1865 when the government was still considering this town as a rail terminus to link into the river boat trade up the Murray Darling Rivers.

Coleman's mill store building opposite the flour mill in Strathalbyn South Australia. Nice facade. No windows on the sides. Built in 1864 in blue stone with brick quoins. Almost looks like a church.

The Lodge in Strathalbyn home to the Stirling from from the 1840s to 1932. Their home called Hampton burnt down in 1870 and they moved into the gate house called the Lodge. They added extensively to it in 1873.

Milang Institute 1884. Opened by James Rankine of Braemer House Strathalbyn. Note all the ventilator grills across the facade. Built in local limestone.

Strathalbyn flour mill. This four storey structure was built in 1850. Sold to Laucke Milling Company in 1938. Closed 1961 when Lauckes opened a new flour mill elsewhere in Strathalbyn.

Strathalbyn cemetery. The headstone of Gemmel Rankine. The Rankine brothers were founders of Strathalbyn in 1839. There is a settlement outside the town called Gemmels.

The blue stone Gas Works in Strathalbyn. It lit the street lamps from the 1870 until 1917 when electricity took over. It has a domed shape typical of gas works.
