説明 | White pine–hemlock–mixed hardwood forest, Clinton County, within the Mount Logan Natural Area of Bald Eagle State Forest. The 500-plus-acre natural area protects the forested slopes and summit of Mount Logan, a prominent peak on Bald Eagle Mountain. The slopes contain masses of talus; at the summit is a narrow, jumbled outcrop of Tuscarora quartzite. On my last visit, I used the blue-blazed Winchester Trail to access the site. This time, I accessed the site from an unblazed but well-defined trail that starts at the Boyd R. Keller Reservoir, ascends Mount Logan to the natural area boundary, and descends to East Kammerdiner Run. From the boundary, I bushwhacked to a stand of old-growth hemlocks on the north slope and explored several other areas. |
