| 説明 | Information board on the wall of the main tower at Turaida Castle, in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, informing visitors about its history:Built in the 13th century. The last shelter of the castle defenders - an independent fortification. The tower has 5 storeys. The maximum thickness of the walls on the northern side, which is more endangered, is 3.7 m, on the outhern side approximately 3.9 m. The height of the tower to the pointed top of the roof - 38.25 m. In former times the entrance, which was accessed via wooden stairs, used to be at a height of 9.5 m. In 1950ies archaeological investigation was carried out and the upper part of the tower was restored. |
