説明 | SEMBAWANG, Singapore (August 4, 2013) U.S. Navy Command Master Chief Christopher Douglas Kotz, CMDCM of USS Freedom's oncoming crew, issues a charge book to Chief Select Mass Communication Specialist Cassandra Thompson, currently stationed in Japan. MCC SEL Thompson is deployed to USS Freedom for 4 months and is one of two Selects participating with CPO 365 aboard ship. Along with the Charge Book, CMDCM Kotz gave each Chief Select a notebook identical to the one they received in boot camp. He said, "We want you to remember where you came from. Use this as a journal to record your own thoughts about leadership off all kinds as well as to remember this season."Kotz and his "Blue"crew, (101) will take over USS Freedom from "Gold" crew (102) later this week, after a short week of crew swap. Freedom's first rotational deployment to Southeast Asia began March 1, when the ship departed San Diego and commenced a Pacific Ocean transit that included port visits in Hawaii, Guam and Manila. Since arriving in Singapore April 18, Freedom has participated in the International Maritime Defence Exhibition (IMDEX), two separate phases of the bilateral naval exercise Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) with Malaysia and Singapore, and hosted thousands of visitors from throughout Southeast Asia. Fast, agile and mission-focused, littoral combat ships are designed to operate in near-shore environments and employ modular mission packages that can be configured for surface warfare, mine countermeasures, or anti-submarine warfare.
