説明 | The Temple of Aeolus This Grade II listed building was designed and constructed by Sir William Chambers between 1760 and 1763. It was rebuilt by Decimus Burton in 1845 on an artificial mound, known as Cumberland Mount, formed from spoil dug during the creation of the Lake. Aeolus was the mythical king of storms and winds, inventor of sails and a great astronomer. The temple once had a seat which revolved on a pivot to provide a panoramic view with very little effort. |
