説明 | Native cool-season perennial weak-stemmed C3 herb to 50 cm tall; it is covered in stiff spreading hairs and has a swollen turnip-like taproot. Leaves are kidney-shaped to circular, 1.5-5 cm wide and deeply divided into (usually) 5-7 lobes; which are further lobed or toothed. Flowers are usually paired in the leaf axils and have 5 sepals (2-5 mm wide), 5 pink petals (5-12 mm long) and 10 yellow anthers. Hairs on the stalks below the flowers are bent downwards or spreading, but never pressed against the stems in the flowering stage. Flowers throughout the year, but mostly in spring and early summer. Found in grasslands, woodlands and forests; usually in shadier or moister sites where there is little or no grazing by livestock. Native biodiversity. The turnip-like roots can be roasted and eaten, but some are high in tannin and unpalatable. Of little importance to livestock grazing in most situations. It is moderately to highly palatable and selectively grazed by stock. It rapidly declines under increasing grazing frequencies and is best suited to light grazing pressure and where there are long rest periods. |
