説明 | Date: About 2371-2350 B.C. (Old Kingdom, Dynasty 5, reign of Unas) Medium: painted limestone Location: Sakkara, Egypt--probably west of the Step Pyramid of Djoser.Description: Metjetji strides to our right with his left leg stretched forward and holds in his raised left hand a staff. His hair is long; the beard under his chin is short. He wears a collar, and his kilt stretches down to just above his knees. The child behind him grasps Metjetji’s leg below the knee with his left hand; the child in front holds Metjetji’s staff in his left hand and a bird in his lowered right. Reddish ochre paint remains on Metjetji’s limbs and face; black on his hair.Hieroglyphs. The translations are C. Ziegler’s (Age of Pyramids 412). 1. The horizontal inscription: “I was honored by men; I was beloved of the multitude. As for all who saw me anywhere (‘A blessed soul and beloved man is coming,’ they said of me in every place), Director of the Office of Tenants of the Palace, Metjetji.” 2. The vertical inscription before the scepter: “Royal noble, Director of the Office of Tenants of the Palace.” 3. The vertical inscription over the son in front of Metjetji: “Eldest son, [whom he loves], honored by his father, Ptah-hotep.” 4. The inscription over the son behind Metjetji reads: “His [son] whom he loves, Ihy.”Placement of relief: The size of the relief and the use of sunken relief places this sculpture on the jambs of the entrance to Metjetji’s tomb. It stood on the left with its counterpart (now also at the Nelson-Atkins) on the right.Info source: www.echoesofeternity.umkc.edu/Mechechyreliefs.htm |
