| 説明 | After leaving the Greta Arms we have taken the underpass beneath the A66, out of site behind the trees and are now making for Mothram Tower an integral location in Sir Walter Scott's "Rokeby". In all about 15 of us have turned out for this guided walk around the sites associated with Rokeby and J.M.W. Turner who was commissioned to paint many of them for engravings in an 1831 edition of Scott's poems. In 1804 Richard Garland's "A Tour in Teesdale" was published, an early Teesdale tourist guide. Here we are following in his footsteps as he recommends starting a tour in Teesdale at Greta Bridge and praises "The Morritt Arms, from which Rokeby Park ought not to be passed without a visit". Its a nice dry afternoon for a gentle walk and I have an old belief confirmed that time spent with enthusiasts, no matter the subject is nearly almost always interesting. |
