説明 | What you are looking at is Sea Pork. Sea Pork is a tunicate, a colonial animal made up of thousands of smaller animals called zooids. This tunicate got its name because it resembles salted pork. It comes in a variety of colors including pink, red, yellow and green. All tunicates belong to the Chordata family, which means at some stage of its life, it had a spinal cord, a back bone and gill slits. “Adult tunicates look so much like wads of gum or slabs of blubber that it’s hard to believe they are very advanced, complex animals.” - Beachcomber’s Guide to Gulf Coast Marine Life by Susan Rothschild. Sea Pork: Amaroucium stellatum. Subphylum: Urochordata. Class: Ascidiacea.FWC photo by Jennifer Saranzak |
