| 説明 | I had a broken Presto HeatDish a few months back. Though I hadn't utilized them for decades, I looked for that place I could always count on: Valley Small Appliance. Hmmmm, wasn't in the phone book. Not on the internet. Oh, found it.Ashlan Park, Ashlan and Cedar Avenues in Fresno - for years, the locale of 1 Hour "Martinizing" Dry Cleaners! You old Area Code 209ers will remember it!I didn't anticipate this, but I've had right-wing friends disturbed and angered by these pictures. Guilt?? These buildings in ruin are owned by absentee owners, investor-owned entities (big banks), management companies. These are not locally owned. The locally owned buildings are the ones still receiving care and attention. These weathering ones are awaiting sale and/or demolition - there is no incentive to keep them up or lower rents to attract the "pop and pop" clients tht used to fill these older shopping areas. There is more money in liquidating it all instead. The buildings will be demolished and be replaced by a big box store or some other major chain retailer. In fact, such demolition and rebuilding may even receive local gov't tax incentives, Federal "economic zone" liability waivers, grants, cheap loans, etc., etc. - it's a racket. |
