Green is the most common color and comes from molecular oxygen, excited by cosmic radiation, at altitude of 100 km or higher.This aurora borealis was seen on a northern lights safari held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary celebration for Norsk Astronomisk Selskap (The Norwegian Astronomy Society) the same weekend.---Photo taken with a handheld Canon D400, using ISO 800, f/2.8, 28 mm wide angle and a 1 second exposure time. |
