説明 | Old Sony DSC-S90: cheap, easy to disassemble, adapter for filters available. (actually this was two broken cameras)Right in front of the sensor sits an IR-UV-block filter. Removing this: 1. Full spectrum sensitivity; 2. not able to focus on anything further away than 2 meters. The lack of focus is a real problem. And I was more than lucky to literally find a solution: A dirty plastic viewfinder of a toy camera. I stumbled upon it on the street and it fits tightly into an unused 30mm filter ring. The fisheye effect can be downplayed by careful cropping. Sometimes strange things happen: refractions and dots of light and the overall quality suffers of course.IR/UV block filter: This transforms the camera back into a normal camera. Infrared pass filters: This blocks everything but infrared light. With the internal block removed, there is no need for long exposure. The most dramatic difference to normal light is the "green vegetation" and products made from it - like cotton clothing. It turns white. Even black shirts are bright white. Hair is brighter, dye may be ignored. Skin is translucent, no blemishes, but visible veins. Sky without clouds can be really dark.Downsides of infrared: A pure infrared photo has no black, no white, everything is magenta. One way is editing/photshopping/correcting the file on a PC. The other way is to use the built in B/W mode of the cam, which works really well. Especially for automatic snapshots, the camera seems to be less confused somehow, less overexposed.Another problem is that some artificial light sources are completely ignored. LED spotlights, fluorescent lights in a train - the screen remains dark. Even if the emitted light is red to the eyes.Using no filters: The infrared photons are mixed to the normal colors. Dark cotton clothes turn bright violet, green grass shifts towards brown. All in all its a very cheap solution for infrared snapshots and artsy photos alike. And with a bit of experimentation and experience it is versatile and powerful. The image quality sucks, however... |
