説明 | Scan of a glass plate negative. The woman in the centre, we think, is one of the Newland sisters. Can you help us with dating or identifying the people or place? We don't think the man is Bert or Fred Newland. From a collection of letters and photos found by Dorothy Newland when packing up the flat of sisters Grace and Nell Newland at 3 Badham Avenue, Mosman. The five Newland children included boys Bert and Fred, who both served in WWI, and girls Grace, Ethel and Nell. Ethel (Mary Ethel Newland) served as a nurse in New Guinea in 1918. Grace and Nell were parishioners of St Clements Church, Mosman for many years.UPDATE, 20 DECEMBER 2012Sterling work from Matt Smith, Sandra Playle & Alison McCallum on the Inside History Facebook Page www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=355338294562314&set=o... has identified the officer as Lieutenant Douglas Gordon Scott MC, 28th Battalion. We think the woman at centre is Ethel Newland, in the uniform of Tropical Force, wearing her ‘Returned from Active Service’ (RAS) badge. |
