説明The labels from 1980 Piesporter Michelsberg, which I bought at the Safeway supermarket in Annandale, Virginia. Piesporter Michelsberg is a Grosslage, which covers many vineyards in the Piesport area under the 1971 wine law. P. J. Valkenberg was the largest selling German wines at Safeway at the time. The business was founded in 1786 by Peter Joseph Valckenberg (1764-1837). It has been in the family for at least seven generations. The big event in its history was Valckenberg's purchase of the original Liebfraumilch vineyards from the French authorities in 1808. The French had taken the vineyards from from the Liebfrauenkirche in Worms under the "secularization" ordered by Napoleon. France occupied most of what is now Germany west of the Rhine River at the time. The house on the label is Silberbornhof, near Worms Cathedral, which P. J. Valckenberg bought in 1808. According to the label, the house was designed by Balthasar Neumann (1687-1753), a baroque architect best known for the Residenz in Würzburg, and many palaces and churches. The house was destroyed in World War II. The business is still headquartered on the site. The geotagged location is the site of Silberbornhof, on what is now Valckenbergstrasse in Worms.
