説明 | South Australians of World War I : Share their storyService number 3099, William Stuart Stirling, was born at Jamestown, South Australia, on 19 March 1891. He enlisted at Keswick on 10 June 1915 and was promoted to Sergeant on 1 November 1915. Stirling was a first class cricketer, playing for the A.I.F. team that toured England and South Africa after the First World War, and for South Australia, his first appearance being against Western Australia in 1909. He also played district cricket for East Torrens and Kensington. When he died on 17 September 1959 The Advertiser reported on his part in the AIF tour, "Bill Stirling, an accomplished all-rounder, scored 613 runs on the tour, and with his left-arm spin bowling, took 55 wickets at an average of 20." |
