He had been ill since the first of this year. Mr. Dill was born December 17, 1848, near Noblesville, Ind. When a child he moved with his parents to Council Bluffs, Ia. At the age of 15 years, Mr. Dill voted for Abraham Lincoln for president. He was one of the youngest soldiers who entered the Civil War, enlisted in the Eighth Iowa Infantry. He served in the war three years, received his discharge, re-enlisted and served another period. On January 21, 1872, Mr. Dill was married to Miss Frances Thornsburg in Wilson county, Kansas. They went to housekeeping on a farm in Pleasant Valley neighborhood, southwest of Chanute. They lived there 35 years and moved to Chanute 26 years ago. Mr. Dill was a member of the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian church. Surviving him are his wife: one daughter, Mrs. Rosa Ditto, Neches, Tex., who has been with her father for the past four weeks; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was the last of a family of eight children. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Fred Shaw officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. F. S. Ditto of the Methodist churh of Toronto, a brother-in-law of Mrs. Rosa Ditto. Burial will be in Elmwood. Members of the Ladies of the G. A. R. and of the G. A. R. will hold their services at the church, and members of the American Legion will act as pallbearers and conduct their military service. |
