説明 | After adding soda water to the beer concentrate, we ended up with something that looked remarkably like the beer it once was. Full evaluations:Greg:"Beer" looked amazingly similar to beer: carbonation, color, transparency. Smell was a bit anemic, however. Taste was not bad, but had a thin feeling to it. Definitely beer like, but lots of flavor missing. The hops were almost completely gone. Also tasted a hint of the vodka. All things considered, I'd be delighted to drink one of these after a long, hot day of backpacking, but it's definitely not something I'd seek out otherwise. I'd say as freeze dried scrambled eggs are to real home-cooked scrambled eggs, so was this "beer" to a real, live Redhook IPA.Rene:Appearance: near identical to originalMouth feel: There's beer in my mouth!Aroma: I think, after my first whiff, I said something about something one might swim in.Taste: Well, there wasn't much. There's a faint hint of the bitter kick this beverage possessed in its former life. The Absolute we used to re-boozify it and what remains of a hop body conspire in a subtly odd, yet not unpleasant presence. I don't dislike it at all, there just isn't a whole lot left of this brew TO like. Happily, I found utterly absent the freezer burn I feared.Verdict: After a whiskey while conducting our research, and the better part of a beer examining the results, I don't think we ever got around to answering Greg's question, "If this were freeze dried scrambled eggs, would they be good?" Ultimately, I decided I need to try this w/ a lager, which better fits the original inspiration for the experiment, found at the end of a hot trail with a healthy elevation gain last summer.Yes, I would (and will!) try it again. |
