説明 | Per Wikipedia:"The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), is the fifth Nimitz-class supercarrier in the U. S. Navy, and the second Navy ship named after President Lincoln. Her home port is Norfolk, Virginia, and she is a member of the U. S. Atlantic Fleet, administratively responsible to Commander, Naval Air Forces Atlantic.Operationally, she is currently the flagship of Carrier Strike Group Nine and host to Carrier Air Wing Two, comprising 90 fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. The Lincoln's construction contract was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding in December 1982; her keel was laid in November 1984 at Newport News, Virginia, and the ship was launched in February 1988 and commissioned in November 1989. The Lincoln cost $500 million to build (in 2010 dollars). The Nimitz-class supercarriers are a class of ten nuclear-powered aircraft carriers in service with the U. S. Navy. The lead ship of the class is named for World War II Pacific fleet commander Chester W. Nimitz, who was the Navy's last fleet admiral. With an overall length of 1,092 ft and full-load displacements of over 100,000 long tons, these supercarriers are the largest capital ships in the world. Instead of the gas turbines or diesel-electric systems used for propulsion on many modern warships, the Nimitz-class carriers use two A4W nuclear reactors that drive four propeller shafts and can produce a maximum speed of over 30 knots, and maximum power of around 260,000 shp (190 MW). As a result of the use of nuclear power, the ships are capable of operating for over 20 years without refueling and are predicted to have a service life of over 50 years. Nimitz-class aircraft carriers are numbered with consecutive hull numbers between CVN-68 and CVN-77."Photo by Ron Cogswell on September 22, 2012, using a Nikon D80 and minor Photoshop effects.DSC_0200 |
