| 説明 | The wheelset on the Rock Combo needs a rebuild. Since that rebuild is a job I didn't feel like doing right now, I decided to change the whole drivetrain.I had no Suntour goodies in the garage and mixing an 8 speed Shimano cassette with the 7 speed Suntour derailleur has proved to be a p.i.t.a. in the past. It was actually easier to replace the whole sha-bang than to mess with cups and cones, so here is the end result...well, the beginning of the end result, anyway.I used an 8 speed XT cassette, an 8 speed XT derailleur (the jockeys were thrashed from use so I pulled a nearly new pair from a 9 speed Tiagra derailleur I got on the cheap). I also used a Shimano 105/Araya RM-14 wheelset from a build which never came to fruition.All I had to purchase was an 8 speed chain to make the rebuild a reality. Not a bad investment to make a bike that feels new again!Now let's see how long this mongrel of a drivetrain lasts. |
