説明 | Native, warm-season, perennial, densely tufted grass to 1 m tall. Stems are branched and short rhizomes are present. Flowerheads are a primary axis of racemes 5-15 cm long that are often angled slightly upward or drooping. Spikelets are purple and paired (terminal group is a triplet). The lower unstalked spikelet is 2-flowered, 8-10 mm long (excluding callus) and has a beard of brown hairs at its base. Glumes are similar, with a row/s of short spines and often short-awned. Lower lemma is shorter than the glumes. Upper fertile lemma is narrow and produced into an awn 12–36 mm long. The upper stalked spikelet is sterile and awnless. Found beside, or in elevated parts of, stream beds; plants are often leaning over due to the effects of water flow. |
