説明 | The BT Artbox StoryThe good old British phone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate King George V's Silver Jubilee. This year we’ve got a Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 to look forward to, so we decided we needed to do something to celebrate. That something turned into BT ArtBox. It’s a campaign that thrives on the nation’s artistic talent. Across London’s streets you’ll find replicas of the Gilbert Scott phone box, transformed by the imaginations of some of our very best creative minds. Then later on we’ll be auctioning all the boxes off to raise money for ChildLine’s 25th anniversary.“Tomodachi”Artist: Daisuke SakaguchiLocation: Newport Place, Chinatown"TOMODACHI" is the Japanese word for "FRIENDS"Daisuke Sakaguchi's hand painted BT ArtBox has been inspired by a huge passion of his, Ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese woodblock prints.Ukiyo-e, "pictures of the floating world", traditionally features motifs of landscapes, tales from history, theatrical creatures, fleeting beauty and a realm of entertainments. The "TOMODACHI" BT ArtBox is his very own modern interpretation of this classical art form with his western and eastern influences of colours and symbols. It is a continual story telling mural to represent the circle of life, adorned with intelligent creatures all living together in harmony as Friends which is extremely vital in the world we live in today. The first front door panel has the immortal divine creature, the Dragon, a sign of courage and strength, is clasping the thunder ball representing success and victory. The second panel, has the Octopus for energy and magic, she loves a challenge, has endless attributes and is a master of multi tasking. She is hard at work using a vintage telephone and a fan to keep herself and others calm and relaxed. On the third panel is the Shishi (Lion cub), standing strong on the cliff, is a protector of our souls that wards off evil spirits and is holding the scroll containing the secrets to life. The forth panel, is the Koi, has determination to overcome obstacles and has the ability to attain high goals. On this panel is a banner with the Kanji writing, "TOMODACHI" and the staff decorated with the Crown emblem to celebrate the Kiosk's classic logo along with the Diamond Jubilee. |
