説明Those weird feelers... This is an uncropped 6:1 photo. It's a bit millipedy, a bit like an unplugged woodlouse.Edit. Thanks to Eddie for finding this article- Well, just out of interest I'm going to quote wholesale from it bugs.osu.edu/bugdoc/Ent101/101Arthropods/Arthropods23.htm which looks like a brilliant reference site to use for loads of things."This rarely observed, but common group of myriapods appears to be most closely related to the millipedes, but they are obviously a different line of mandibulates. Pauropods have a 12-segmented trunk with nine pairs of legs in the adult form. They are blind, but have an eye-like structure on the head. The antennae are two-branched, but one branch typically ends in two flagella which gives them the appearance of having a three-branched antenna. This is diagnostic of the group. There are four commonly recognized families, but the soft and translucent Pauropodidae are the most common and this family contains the most species. In North America, we also have the family Eurypauropodidae, which have an armor-like thickening of the dorsal sclerites. These strange arthropods often roll up in a ball when distrubed.Pauropods apparently feed on fungi, decaying plant and animal material. They are very common in decaying piles of leaves, under the bark of dead trees and other secretive places."Edit- After more research, I've discovered this was new to science, first described by Scheller in 1990 and is the UK's first and only representative of the family Eurypauropodidae. As far as I can tell, this is the first photograph of the living animal! Which is cool... Further edit- Bugger. Have been in touch with Ulf Scheller... It might not be T. britannicus after all, which means another bloody new species. More killing required...
