説明 | This ad bugs the hell out of me.How did a foreign company like Bombardier even get a foothold in the American transit market? Why were we not supporting companies like Brill, St. Louis Car Co. (who built the PCC streetcars that still ply the tracks of both American and foreign cities), Pullman, GMC Truck and Coach, Mack, Morrison Knudsen, Flxible and American Car and Foundry? Why are there no more American companies building railcars, streetcars (no, I do not count boutique makers like Gomaco) and transit buses? And I'm not talking about product built in American plants by foreign companies to meet federal "made in America" standards. I'm talking designed here and built here by companies headquartered here. What kind of country are we, who has to go to Canada to get a damn city bus built? Why was the Acela not designed and built here out of completely American parts? And why should any part of an "American" rapid transit car (like our upcoming 5000 series) be made in China? Work on that one, Elon Musk, as you build $100,000 electric go-karts from English Lotus parts.I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If this keeps up, the only things still made in America will be hamburgers, french fries, milkshakes and excuses. |
