説明 | Information sign at the beginning of the Kbal Spean trek. One has to walk 2.5 km up the hill, which takes nearly an hour. Although most of the way is easy walking on a well defined wide trail, there are places where one has to clamber up big boulders to gain height. The rocks are wide enough, but it's tiring, and you are prone to slip if you are unsteady after all the walking you have done so far. The total distance is about 2.5 km. Kbal Sean is the site of some interesting carvings on the bedrock of the Siem Reap river. It was believed that the river flowing over the carvings- Saharalingas or 1000 lingas (the Hindu phallic symbol) sanctifies the water as it flows down to the Tonle Sap lake in interior Siem Reap. There are more carvings on the rocks on the river bank, beside the river too. Kbal Spean is one of the scores of Angkor temples which dot the countryside around Siem Reap, and is located some 25 km out of Siem Reap town. We will get there shortly. (see subsequent pictures later in this album for notes and pictures). This sign is fairly self explanatory if viewed in expanded or full screen mode, so I will cut out any further commentary.
