| 説明 | Kbal Spean carvings on the bedrock- the water level is low today! I am at Kbal Spean, also known as the River (or Valley) of 1000 lingas (the Hindu phallic symbol), which is one of the scores of Angkor era religious sites dotted all around Siem Reap, Cambodia. Kbal Spean is best known for the 1000 lingas carved on the bedrock of the Siem Reap river, right atop a mountain. some of which you can see here. In addition, here at Kbal Spean, you can also see sculptures of Hindu gods and ordinary animals (notably crocodiles and frogs) on the rocks beside the river, and a waterfall where the river falls a couple of feet on the rocks. What you see here is actually a portion of the sahasralingas or 1000 lingas in the rocky bed of Kbal Spean River. In reality, they stand up like little stumps, so here they are either incomplete or have been vandalized. Though the sculptures have been vandalized and damaged, the carved idols still retain their original grandeur- fascination and awe is probably more like it. Under the supervision of archaeologists, the graduates of Artisans d'Angkor have been able to reproduce some portions of Kbal Spean's missing bas- reliefs and carvings.
