説明 | I am now in the Ta Prohm temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This is one of the scores of Angkor era temples which dot the countryside all around Siem Reap The trees growing out of the ruins are perhaps the most distinctive feature of Ta Prohm. Two species of trees predominate, but sources disagree on their identification: the larger is either the silk-cotton tree or thitpok Tetrameles nudiflora, and the smaller is either the strangler fig or Gold Apple. (from Wikipaedia). The Khmer king Jayavarman VII constructed Rajavihara (the original name of the Ta Prohm temple) in honour of his family. The temple's main image, representing Prajnaparamita, the personification of wisdom, was modelled on the king's mother. The northern and southern satellite temples in the third enclosure were dedicated to the king's guru (teacher), Jayamangalartha and his elder brother respectively. More notes about the Ta Prohm temple appear as we go along in this album. (see subsequent pictures later in this album). (Siem Reap, Cambodia, Oct. 2008). |
