説明 | Across a busy street from White Bear Lake, in the Minnesota city of the same name, a Canada Goose laid her eggs in a half-barrel planter just 10 feet from the road. Her mate positioned himself on the lake side of the road, ready to attack and/or distract any perceived threat, mainly people walking by with their evil little dogs. This gander puffed himself up and ran at the threat, mouth open and honking. If the threat did not back off, the gander invoked plan B, which was to slowly retreat whie flapping and honking, hoping to draw attention away from the precious nest. This tactic worked surprising well--it was more than a week of daily attacks before I even realized there was a nest in plain sight on the other side of the road! The gander has survived in doing this for two years now, bumping off the roofs and hoods of cars occasionally. There is another picture of the attack goose next to this one in my photostream. |
