| 説明 | The castle is an impressive survivor towering above both town and the river Wye. It dates from the Norman Conquest and was built by William Fitz Osbern one of William the Conqueror's henchmen. After 1066 and all that Fitz Osbern became Earl of Hereford and spent much of the rest of his time fighting the Welsh. In addition to Chepstow, Fitz Osbern also built the castles at Monmouth, Hereford and Clifford. Busy man. |
