| 説明 | Cool season, densely-tufted annual or short-term perennial pasture to 1 m tall. Leaves are sparsely hairy, while the lowest sheaths are usually hairy. Ligules are long and membranous. Flowerheads are open panicles with drooping branches and large (to 35mm long) spikelets. Spikelets have up to 12 shortly awned florets. Germinates in early autumn and flowers in late-winter and spring. Commonly naturalised on the coast and tablelands in disturbed areas; prefers moist, fertile and well-drained soils with pHCa > 5.5. Pasture varieties occasionally sown in coastal and tableland areas, although the cost is very high. Frost tolerant, but low drought tolerance. A productive and highly palatable autumn to spring growing grass. Feed quality is similar to perennial ryegrass, but more palatable. Rotationally graze at 3-4 leaves per tiller for best production and persistence; aim to keep between 6 and 15 cm in height. Doesn’t tolerate heavy set stocking. Sow with clover to overcome low levels of iodine and magnesium in Prairie Grass. Very responsive to increased fertility. |
