| 説明 | As an employee of the Scottish Board of Excise, Burns was a "placeman" and had to take care not to be seen as anti-establishment, on ocassion, he rather failed the test and on one famous occasion was suspected of joining in the singing of republican songs at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries. To prove his loyalty Burns joined the Dumfries Volunteers founded in 1795 to counter the threat from France. And to confound the notion that he supported the French Revolutionaries (which he did) he wrote this song which became popular throughout the land.DOES HAUGHTY GAUL INVASIOIN THREATDoes haughty Gaul invasion threat?
