| 説明 | Bilal is the man staring intently at the camera. I took these pictures inside his home. Bilal and Mohamed (who sits on the bunk bed in this image gallery) have now been repatriated to Bangladesh after their employer failed repeatedly to pay its levy payments for foreign workers to the Singapore Government. In total, 56 men from the same company had their work permits cancelled.Mohamed left Singapore on Monday, April 9, with 13 of his fellow workers.Neither Mohamed nor Bilal have paid off the debts that they amassed in opting to move to Singapore in the first place. These pictures document the home their shared with 28 other men in the 10 months they lived in Singapore. These are the conditions that migrant workers experience when they embark on their journey for a better life in Singapore.Watch this video on Vimeo. Video created by Farah James. |
