説明 | My friend Gaz Holt from Doncaster has organised this meet for the Backpacker's Club over the weekend of 13th.-14th. April 2012, this is our rendevous point at the Snake Pass Inn and six tents were pitched on this bit of adjacent land by the Inn car-park, that's my tent closest to camera , its not a camp-site in the proper sense of the world but we get access to the Inn toilet facilities from 8.30am in the morning. The Inn is midway on the north-west line of the A57 linking Sheffield with Glossop. To our west lies Black Ashop Moor with the Derbyshire County high-point of Kinder Scout, and the famous land of the mass trespass of 1932 fame. And the Kinder Downfall, which in a good winter gives Derbyshire climbers a scarce opportunity to climb a bit of ice. It gets busy and frankly, hardly worth the effort of the walk-in. (But of course that never held us back).I know the continuity is nebulous but indulge me; I like this kind of connection:SNAKE (Part)He drank enoughAnd lifted his head, dreamily, as one who has drunken,And flickered his tongue like a forked night on the air, so black,Seeming to lick his lips,And looked around like a god, unseeing into the air,And slowly turning his head,And slowly, very slowly, as if thrice adream,Proceed to draw his slow length curving roundAnd climb again the broken bank of my wall-face.And as he put his head into that dreadful hole,And as he slowly drew up, snake-easing his shoulders, andentered further,A sort of horror, a sort of protest against his withdrawing into that horrid black hole.D.H.Lawrence 1885-1929.Time to pop into The Snake for a bit of a drink, methink... |
