説明 | The Provo River is located in Utah County and Wasatch County, Utah, in the United States. It rises in the Uinta Mountains at Washington Lake and flows about 70 miles (110 km) southwest to Utah Lake at the city of Provo, Utah. The two main branches of Provo River are North Fork Provo River and South Fork Provo River. Deer Creek Dam on the Provo River impounds Deer Creek Reservoir, which was built in 1941. It is impounded further by Jordanelle Reservoir at the north end of the Heber Valley. The river was originally named the Timpanogotzis (or Tumpanowach) after the American Indian tribe living on its bank. Early settlers changed the name to Provo, after trapper Etienne Provost, for whom the city of Provo, Utah is also named. The Provo River was once used for irrigation until Utah Lake began to shrink, prompting a reworking of the irrigation systems.According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), variant names for Provo River include Tim-pan-o-gos River and Upper Provo Riveren.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provo_Riveren.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_Creative_Commons_... |
