説明 | At the time, four Haringey Primary Schools were threatened with forced privatisation by Government Minister Michael Gove. They were Downhills School; Coleraine Park; Noel Park; and Nightingale.Around a thousand people marched from outside Downhills School to Haringey Civic Centre. Here we were under the footbridge at Wood Green High Road. The march was organised by school governors and parents; supported by school staff, and people from other schools, by trades unions, and local political groups. The BBC website quotes an unnamed Department for Education Spokesperson as saying:"Wherever possible we want to find solutions that everyone can agree on.”Translated into Govespeak this means that where governors, parents, staff and local councils don't agree with Michael Gove, he will impose his own solutions. Ignoring our views, feelings and wishes,____________________________________________§ The Mouse that Roared #3 video on YouTube by Brent Greens§ BBC website: Hundreds protest in Haringey over school academy plan. § Aerial view of where this video was taken. § A Labour colleague of mine in Haringey went to see Michael Gove. She said he spoke of academies as "a blessing", and seemed genuinely perplexed that Haringey couldn't understand this. Which made me wonder if I'm wrong about Mr Gove. That maybe he isn't just a right-wing idealogue. That we face theology; and his deity is Mammon. From the Observer website: State schools hover on the brink of huge private sector revolution. |
