| 説明 | This young man, watched by his astonished friend and the equally surprised military police, is taking a huge risk. Thousands of Egyptians have experienced what it's like to be on the receiving end of a brutal beating by police batons followed often by far worse once in either police or army detention. Yet he still dares to make his anger known. On 17 December protests had started around Tahrir Square due to violence against protesters outside Egypt's parliament a day earlier. This photograph was taken just outside the Egyptian museum.This in turn had been proceeded by months of unrest including the death of 24 Christian demonstrators at Maspero in October and the death of 42 demonstrators in the Mohamed Mahmoud Street clashes of November. Early in December a peaceful sit-in had commenced outside the Cabinet offices opposite Egypt parliament in protest at the appointment of former Mubarak crony Kamal Al Ganzoury as prime minister.In the early hours of the 16 December one of the protesters, Aboudy Ibrahim, was apprehended by soldiers, dragged into the grounds of the parliament building and severely beaten before being released, his face swollen and bleeding. Clashes then ensued between the protesters and the security forces, some of whom threw down stones and even marble slabs on to the crowd of demonstrators from the roofs of near by government buildings. When I arrived just after dawn on 17 December I noticed a large number of military police were clearing Tahrir Square. Witnesses told me that they had beaten and arrested demonstrators and smashed parked vehicles presumably on the somewhat dubious assumption that they belonged to people sympathetic to the protesters. |
