説明 | Well! This was quite an evening. Here I am, all dressed up :D The black jeans are 20 years old, and I'm damn proud that I can still wear a 31/34 even sitting down. The gray shirt is thrifted; the argyle sweater a Groupon purchase from Old Navy. The slip-on sneakers are 4 years old, bought off Ebay at 20% off. Rich, I am not.But it was nice not to have to dress like a polar bear to go out to family Christmas dinner. Today was incredibly mild; 43 degrees at noon. If this is what global warming will be like, I'll try to deal;)About a half hour after we sat down to dinner, my cousin Susan (80 years old) suddenly fainted and fell out of her chair. We called 911, laid her on her side (she was still conscious and talking), and fanned her with two of the gold chargers from the place settings. There was speculation that the two glasses of her homemade eggnog that she had on an empty stomach may have been a factor, but when the first paramedic came through the door, the first words out of his mouth were, "It's burning hot in here!" I looked at the thermostat: 74 degrees.Anyway, the paramedics didn't feel that she needed hospitalization -- one of my other relatives drove her home to get some rest.Susan was very, very fortunate. Her mother, Mama Samuels, fell out during Christmas dinner in 1967, and passed away the day after. I think next year, Susan might try putting a little less brandy in the eggnog. (I tried half a glass, and unlike past years, it had a kick like an angry mule.)But just in case, I think I'd better practice her recipe (which she gave all of us) for "So-Good-They'll-Make-You-Slap-Yo'-Momma" dinner rolls. Yeast can't be that hard to work with. Can it? |
