説明 | This bridge, south of the Kenwood Yard and the Port of Albany, is a defunct bridge. The two approach bridges, the south of which you can see clearly on the left, and the north on the right less so, resemble turntable bridges, but I believe they are prefabricated truss bridge sections. The main bridge rests on wooden piers which are starting to decay. The north side of the bridge is cocked over by about 16", and the south side by almost as much. There's a pipe on the far side of the bridge which is insulated, so it likely carries either incoming water or outgoing sewage. Either way, there's gonna be hell to pay when the bridge finally collapses into the Norman Kill. I suspect that the responsible people already know this, because on the far side of the bridge is about 12' of newly replaced pipe. I expect that when the bridge got twisted, the pipe got torqued and started to leak. It's been fixed, but I'm sure that everyone concerned is waiting with bated breath to see how long the bridge will hold. |
