説明Thought that we might revisit this interesting Dublin street corner, as these lovely and ornate ironwork bollards weren't so clear in this photo. For any of you thinking this is a load of bollards, this is also a great street shot. We're getting a much better view of the sculptural features of the Parnell Monument, including the oddly hyphenated provinces of Ireland: UL-STER, CON-NACHT, LEIN-STER, MUN-STER. There's the No. 8 bus on its way to Dalkey, passing by Forte's Cafe, a Dublin institution, and a cute but overloaded Fiat car complete with L plate, plus a snapshot of Dublin fashion in the Spring or summer of 1969. We didn't have a very precise date for this photo, but those election posters on the lamp post outside the National Bank helped us to narrow down the date from some time in 1969 to June or July 1969.Aside from that, for one time only we were left with more questions than answers! What was the story with these very fancy bollards? Did the holes help release smelly fumes from underground public toilets or sewers? Were they air vents from a huge basement at Findlater’s Wine Merchants? And why had the bollards moved in such a mysterious way from the other end of O’Connell Street, to stand here beside the Parnell Monument? We still don’t know.
