| 説明 | Fuller Park was part of what was formerly St. Cecelia's Parish. The church complex formerly extended from 45th St. to 46th St. along S. Wells, and included the Church at 45th St. and Wells (demolished in 1973), and the attached Rectory and School on 45th Place and the Convent and its grounds between 45th Place and 46th Street on Wells. The former Rectory, School and Convent are still standing.After St. Cecelia's Church was torn down, the remaining buildings became part of St. Charles Lawanga (the actual church was at 55th and Wentworth. After the school closed down in 1990, the school building became an alternative high school; now, it's home to a charter high school, Innovations.The convent, after the nuns left in the 1990's, was converted by Catholic Charities into a halfway house for formerly drug-addicted mothers and then a residence for college students. After they left this spring, it descended into the condition you see here. Over the last month vandals broke in, broke out all the windows, and tagged the rear upstairs outside wall facing the Dan Ryan Expressway.9th District Problem Building officers have been notified, with these pictures included; so has 311.Why can't an empty building just sit without being mindlessly vandalized? |
