Kathryn Wilgus, METT operating room nurse mentor, with the Defense Meritorious Service Medal during a medal presentation ceremony Oct. 26 at the Mike Spann Memorial in Qala-i-Jangi, near Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan. Johnny Micheal “Mike” Spann, a CIA agent, was the first American casualty in Afghanistan in battle against the Taliban.
