| 説明 | This huge plant has been erected from 1957 to 1961 - right beneath the once most productive coal mine of the world. In the early 1970s the coking plant has been extended; after that ca. 1.000 people worked here. In 1993 the site closed down. Plans were made to transfer all the ovens and equipment to China; but this project did not materialize. Today "Kokerei Zollverein" is open to the public as an impressive industry museum. It is included in the list of the UNESCO world cultural heritage. The line of the coking ovens measures 700 meters; during their best days the produced 5.000 tons of coke each day to feed the hungry blats furnaces of the Ruhr region (Ruhrgebiet). |
