説明 | Lombardy Poplars ... Populus nigra 'Italica'.A male clone, propagated by cuttings from a tree in Lombardy, northern Italy, early in the 18th century. Grown in Europe and North America on roadsides, both for wind shelter and for their ornamental value. They can grow to a height of 30 metres (100 feet) or more. The flowers (catkins) open in March or April. The leaves look much like Populus nigra, with hairless stalks and shoots. The bark is greyish and usually fluted and cracked, bearing twiggy shoots. The shape of the tree itself is probably its most distinctive feature ... tall, upright, and relatively narrow. |
