説明 | by George Sherrin (1843-1909) above the More Gate entrance of Lincoln’s Inn, at thecorner of Carey St. and Serle St.Sherrin is better known for the London Oratory, but less so for an estate of large houses near to Ingatestone Station in Essex, where Sherrin lived as well as the Kursal or Kursaal in Southend-on-Sea and some tube stations in West London. An interesting character.More details to be found here: K. Langford `A neglected Essex architect', in Essex Countryside 32, no.324 (Jan. 1984), pp. 22-23Sherrin would also have influenced the architecitural partnership of Lanchester & RIckards which developed in his office and went on to create such masterpieces as Cardiff City Hall & Law Courts and Deptford Town Hall inter alia. The extraordinary experimental sound poet Henri Chopin lived for a time in one of Sherrin's villas in IngatestoneSherrin himself has worked previously with another Essex architect, Frederic Chancellor. |
