| 説明 | Today I spent a day being awed by nature in the geothermal parks Wai-O-Tapu and Waimangu. I had intended to go to Wai-O-Tapu only, but then decided to spend time at Waimangu as well. I do not regret that decision at all as both parks are very different. Wai-O-Tapu is a very old geothermal site whereas Waimangu has been in existence only since Jun 10, 1886, when Mt. Tarawera errupted and changed this area forever. from the brochure: Waimangu is the only hydrothermal system in the world the commencement of whose surface activity can be pinned down to an exact day, namely 10 June 1886. On that day a violent volcanic eruption puncture the country in this locality with a series of craters and allowed geothermal fluid already present underground direct passage to the surface of the earth." |
