説明 | Just my opinion, the plans offer a range of values, but as a flyer, I think the dihedral on this one is more than it needs. It centers and "grooves" easily, has a hard time NOT flying dead level. I like launching in a bank and letting them circle, gently. This is dead easy to fly, but it flys fast and straight-ish. More wing making lift (even a little more) and less certain centering would increase the fun value. I tapered and lightened the aft fuselage, the tail surfaces are very light and thin. The lighter I get it, the slower it flies. Maybe the wings should be thinned.Kevin Hoffman built this kit back in, oh, after 1987. He did a good job and the dings and knocked off sections are badges of honor won when hitting trees and the like that we shouldn't have been flying that close to. The sloppy orange paint is courtesy of me and it is NOT 2 tons of "hot fuel proof" butyl-somethng dope. Its Testor's Acryl (II) International Orage, water-based acrylic paint. Light weight, sticks well to the balsa, protects the leading edges slightly and looks pretty good in flight. I was going to put a second color boundary line on it, but haven't yet.Damage to the horizontal stabilizer shows how thin Kevin sanded the trailing edge, and the dangers of a curve or diagonal edge across the grain. Aesthetically, a tapered or curved and tapered plan looks great, but made from thin, sheet, balsa wood, particularly with the nice, high efficiency large aspect ratio... well, you can see what happened. The big chunk was lost in the field. The little bit on the port side, near the center line, was broken when I dropped the plane indoors.zIMG_5688 |
