While the sun shone for some time prior as it began to settle in the horizon, cloud cover began to take over. This subadult, and seven other foxsnakes were discovered under small, flat rocks on a ridge along a wet prairie in Illinois. It was an amazing experience, as multiples were discovered under single rocks, and all within a brief period of time. This snake, the largest of them all, was very defensive upon discovery and made for a good subject. After photos it was released back under it's rock, which had crevices leading deeper underground to escape the incoming cool weather.Illinois |
