説明 | Agropyron spicatum ssp. inerme in open areas near the trailhead to Picacho Peak, southeast side of Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, New Mexico. Though spikelets each have multiple awnless lemmas, the long internodes, much longer than the length of the subtending glumes, is diagnostic of Agropyron spicatum and awnless lemmas are diagnostic of ssp. inerme. The awnless form is often used in seed mixes for vegetation rehabilitation in many open dry environments in western North America where cool season grasses are abundant. This observation suggests that the upper elevations of this region favor an abundance of cool season grasses. |
