The morning was mostly cloudy, but the sun shone for about thirty minutes before a friend and I decided to cruise some roads intersecting desert habitat. On one such gravel road, I saw a large snake crossing at a distance. As I ran out to grab it, this coachwhip lunged at my face, then immediately took off. Being familiar with this trick from Eastern Coachwhips back home, I was able to avoid the bite and catch the snake. After a brief photo session this snake was released to thick vegetation nearby.Oklahoma |
