| 説明 | Built in 1968, this Modern New Formalist-style building was designed by C. F. Murphy and Associates to serve as the home of the Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, founded in 1852 as the first hospital in Chicago. The building replaced an earlier hospital complex on the same site, with portions that dated back to the 1860s. The building is clad in concrete with exterior concrete columns that sit several feet beyond the building’s facade, ribbon windows, a cornice-like top floor with bracket-like fins, a projected second-story bay above the main entrance, and concrete panel cladding at the base. To the south and west sides of the building’s podium are Postmodern-style additions added in the late 20th Century, which are clad in glass with gabled glass entrance atriums and a barrel vaulted canopy over the building’s porte cochere. The building today remains in use as a hospital, today known as Insight Hospital and Medical Center. |
