説明 | Built in 1873-1874, this Gothic Revival-style building was built for the congregation of Trinity Episcopal Church, founded in 1842, and replaced a previous church in Downtown Chicago, destroyed by the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. The building was expanded in 1894 with the addition of a Parish House, which is larger and taller than the original structure. The building features a rough-hewn limestone exterior with a gabled roof, gothic arched bays, stained glass windows, a rose window above the projected front entrance vestibule, a hipped dormer on the west side of the sanctuary, a three-story parish house with a second-story oriel window, arcaded gothic arched bays on the third floor, gabled dormers, corbeled red brick cornices and red brick cladding on the side facades, and an entrance portal on the first floor. The building today remains in use as the home of the Trinity Episcopal Church congregation. |
